The Gods Own Country, as the state is widely known, lies along the south-western coast of the peninsular India. Kerala is bordered by the Arabian sea in the west and the mountains of the Western Ghats on the east. Kerala is rich with a coastal area of about 600 km with a width varying between 35 and 120 km. Kerala has its hills and valleys, midland and plains and the coastal regions.

The most famous tourist attractions within Kerala are Kumarakom, Alappuzha, Kochi, Wayanad, Athirappilli and Thekkadi. Kumarakom is situated in the district of Kottayam. The biggest highlight of Kumarakom is the boat ride with Vembanad Lake as the back drop. Kumarakom also has a bird sanctuary where many species of migratory birds visit. If you visit Kerala during mid-august September, you will also be able to see numerous boat races in Alappuzha for which the region is more than famous.

Athirappilly falls is situated in Thrissur district near Chalakkudy. It is of 24 m height on Chalakkudy River. There are two water theme parks situated near the falls. Also, the Vazhachal spot, Thumboormuzhi project and Sholayar reserve are very near to Athirappilly. Rich with wildlife, the area also has the possibility of trekking that an adventurous tourist can make use of. Monsoon is the season in which Athirappilly reaches the height of its scenic beauty.


Thekkady is a prime location in the tourist map of India when it comes to flora and fauna. It is considered a haven of spices like black pepper. Periyar National Park is situated here. Thekkady is famous for its evergreen forest and elephant herds. It is also home to herds of sambar, tigers, gaur, lion-tailed macaques and nilgiri langurs.

People of Kerala are famous for their hospitality towards the tourists. The tourists are able to learn from the culture and traditions of Kerala that always welcome tourists.
