Going for another Title with University of Maryland Basketball Tickets
University of Maryland basketball tickets were "the" tickets to have at the beginning of the 21st Century, as the Terrapins were truly a part of the elite of college basketball. They hit their apex in 2002 when they won the national championship, and it appeared that Coach Gary Williams had the program prepared to dominate into the foreseeable future. However, something happened on the Terrapins' way to a dynasty, and they have not even qualified for the last two NCAA Tournaments.
Even though he's a Maryland alum, Williams understands that he's "on the clock," and needs to get something done with his program before time runs out. Maryland has won 19 games in each of the past two years, but it's all about the postseason in Maryland and in the ACC, and below we'll take a look to see what we should expect from Maryland this season.
New Players
Maryland needed an influx of talent, as early entries into the NBA and other off-the-court problems have plagued the Terrapins over the past two seasons. They've gotten just that, and two new point guards will not only potentially restore the Williams offense to its intended form, but will also allow Maryland's best player, D.J. Strawberry, to move back to his more natural position on the wing.
Maryland also has a freshman at the small forward spot who can fill it up, and 6-6 freshman Landon Milbourne was one of the top recruits in the country last year. Milbourne is a scorer, and he will be a great compliment to Strawberry. Regardless of records, Milbourne and Strawberry alone will be worth the price of any University of Maryland basketball tickets.
Coaching Stability
One of the more underrated aspects of college basketball is the coaching, particularly among the unknown assistants. Due to Maryland's recent success, the Terrapins have lost seven assistant coaches in recent years, and that has hurt both the on-court coaching and the recruiting to an extent. Williams has to be hoping that one of the benefits of two "off" years is that his staff won't continue to be raided, as his team is getting younger and will need that stability to develop all that talent.
Williams himself certainly isn't planning on going anywhere, as he always wanted to coach at his alma mater. He would have to be dragged away from campus with the Maryland National Guard, so no one needs to worry about him becoming tempted by the NBA or any other college job. That's a huge message to be able to send when recruiting, and Williams' recruiting results seem to signify that players believe in Williams and his system.
Outlook
Maryland has had to tough years, by Maryland's standards. Many schools would love back-to-back 19-win seasons, but Maryland needs to step it up this year. It seems that the Terrapins have a roster now that's more conducive to Williams' style, and they seem to be building stability that's sorely needed in college athletics.
Maryland may play in the brutal ACC, but look for them to make a return trip to the NCAA Tournament. Not to mention, University of Maryland basketball tickets will always provide a high-flying show.
