To date, The Bank of North Dakota is the only state owned bank in the United States

of America which makes the Federal Reserve Bank responsible for most government jobs in the banking sector. The bank serves as the central bank of the United States with as much as 17,965 employees recorded in 2008.

Types of Jobs

Key job titles include Attorney, Financial Analyst/Bank Examiner, Information Technology Professional, Law Enforcement Professional, Operations & Administration, Economist and Research Assistant. The agency also accepts student interns.

Qualifications and Requirements

Getting a job at the bank depends on vacancies and an applicant's qualifications. According to the FAQ page on the Reserve's official web site, "the Board will hire any qualified person who is a United States citizen or who is not a citizen but meets the requirements of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA)" so citizenship is not a requirement.

Each vacancy outlines the level of qualifications or experience needed. With the exception of law enforcement professionals, positions listed often require a minimum of a Bachelors degree. A position like 'economist' require as a high as a PH.D. A number of the positions listed require some level of post-graduate work along with experience.

Law enforcement applicants are required to successfully complete comprehensive physical examinations (physical and mental) and are subjected to a background check. Besides knowledge of basic emergency procedures they are also expected to be holders of a GED. In the absence of a high-school diploma, experience complemented by excellent oral and written communication skills serves as an alternative.

Job seekers who are still enrolled in academic institutions may also find vacancies while on campus since the bank often visits university campuses to attract students interested in acquiring government jobs in the banking sector

Applying for Jobs

All applications except those for the positions of economist and research assistant are to be submitted online using the "submit resume" option on the bank's site. Completed applications are automatically forwarded to a recruiter.

Salary

Jobs are measured on a grade scale. Salaries are determined based on the grade of the position with each grade carrying a minimum to maximum range. The lowest listed 'Employee Salary Structure' on the site for 2010 was the $25,900 to $42,480 for a Grade 41 position with the highest being employee salary being $77,310 to $126,790 for Grade 47 employees.
