Great Indoor Activities For Winter
The winter season doesn't have to mean spending boring hours at home; if you play your cards right
, each and every member of your family can find themselves entertained when they can't go out.
1. Build Something
If you have kids, there are a variety of activities they can amuse themselves with. Ask them to find various objects around the home and have them build something. It could be a house of playing cards, or a special fort built out of cushions. You don't need to give away any prizes or rewards, although turning it into a friendly competition is fine. The kids may learn something new about themselves, and you could gain a few moments of silence to yourself. Make sure that nothing can be built too quickly; should you get through it too fast, you will just grow bored again.
2. Learn Something New
Want to expand your horizons? Take the winter season as an opportunity to learn something new. Purchase or check out a book and ask your family to read it together; experiment in the kitchen and discover a new recipe; watch a documentary on the television. Choose a subject that everybody can enjoy, not just something that you are personally fascinated with. Whatever you pick up from the experience won't just remain in your memory for a few hours; it could stay with you for years. If you want, ask friends or other family members to join in.
3. Put on a Show or Create a Story
This is another idea probably more suited for children, but still fun no matter what your age. If you have a computer, ask a member of the family to sit with you and type up a story. It can be about anything your collected minds can come up with, from epic adventures to romantic encounters in a time long gone. Draw pictures to go with the story if you want, and print everything out to share. If you don't want to simply write a story, put on a show. Act everything out and make it feel more real. Make sure you have one or more electric heaters around to stay warm.
You don't have to spend your winter days staring out the window and wishing it was warm again; use your limited resources to come up with something your whole family can benefit from. Learn something you never knew before - or simply forgot - or write a story you can read and share around one of your electric heaters for years. Encourage your kids to make something, or test your limits as far as you can. So long as you can come up with the idea, you can make it happen, and winter will never be the same.
