I am going to share with you some heart healthy tips on how you can set a good example for your young ones.

1. One of the best ways on how you can train your kids to become physically active is to limit the time they spend in front of the TV, computer games, videos and movies to less than 2 hours per day. Look for some fun and creative substitutes of leisure time to enjoyable physical activities that can lower the risk ofcoronary artery disease.


2. At an early age, designate some household chores to your kids, those that they can do without much difficulty but would still allow good physical exertion, while keeping in mind their levels of maturity, coordination and strength. 3. Schedule family outings that involve moderate to vigorous physical activities like bicycling, hiking, swimming, skiing, etc.

6. If it's safer to bike or walk instead of driving, do so. Choose to use the stairs instead of escalators and elevators. As you do this, you are not only setting a good example for your kids, you are helping them form a very healthy habit.

7. Opt for gifts that are fitness oriented such as a mini-trampoline, a jump rope, a youth membership at a local YMCA or a tennis racket. Choose gifts with your kid's interests and skills in mind.
