, you will be certain to get outstanding results next spring. When you begin to see frost around your home in the evening, you should begin to plant your flower bulbs before too much longer. If your soil is not in the best of conditions, you should consider amending it well before you begin to plant and also make sure that the bulbs won't get too wet. Fall flower bulbs enjoy alot of sunlight, so to meet their needs be sure to find the sunniest areas in your yard for planting. Most varieties of flower bulbs like full sun exposure, at least 6 hours a day. Plant large bulbs 8 inches deep and smaller ones 5 inches down. Also, when preparing to plant your flower bulbs, be sure to till your soil at least three inches deeper than you plan on planting them.

Once your planting area has been readied, you can spread out your bulb in the area you are going to plant in order to gauge their best spacing. While you are planning this out, be sure to consider the size and color of your arrangement. You may also want to consider the timing of the blooms on your arrangement of bulbs, the right setup can give you the longest bloom duration possible with your combination. Another good practice when selecting bulbs is to closely inspect your choices for decay, rot or diseases so that you do not bring them into your yard or waste your money. Select and plant only the healthy flower bulbs in your garden.

When planting your bulbs, dig a bit deeper than your bulb needs to be planted to loosen the soil for good root development. Be sure to measure the depth you are planting at so that the bulb is adequately protected from the winter freeze. If you look around enough you can even find trowels and other planting tools that have measuring lines on them to easily judge your depth. After burying your bulbs in the yard, be sure to add some fertilizer to the soil and then add a generous amount of water as well. You may also want to consider using mulch to cover the area to add more protection to the bulbs from the cold. Mulch also helps retain moisture through the winter months. When the spring comes, be sure to remove your mulch as the bulbs come up and add more fertilizer to ensure best growth and duration.
