Guidelines For Redecorating The Living Room
Here are some tips on how to decorate your living room but keep it in line with your
own personal taste, do not worry about making your furniture match the curtains, instead focus on making it match your style.
- Think! The first thing you want to do is sit down and decide what the main function of the room will be, what are you going to spend most of your time doing in the room, with this in mind you can arrange your decorating around the activities you intend to do, such as entertaining guests, watching TV or perhaps just wanting a quiet calming room to read in.
Take an inventory of all of the major furniture in the room and list the items that you would like to purchase for the space. Analyze your furniture needs based on the activities you wrote down in the previous step.
- Focal Point Now you need to decide what object is going to be the focal point of your room, in most living rooms the TV is the focal point, this is because furniture has to be arranged around the TV so people get a good viewing angle, but this does not need to be the case, you can have a fire place as the focal point, a nice bit of artwork, whatever it is you want people to notice first when they enter the room.
o Once you know what furniture you'll place in your living room and have selected a focal point, it's time to use your creativity and imagination to arrange all the pieces into a pleasing whole. However, in order to maintain the practicality and functionality of your living room, there are some rules you will want to follow, in addition to incorporating your personal style into the arrangement of furniture.
o To make sure you can move around easily and to avoid giving your room a messy look, keep walkways, windows, and doors clear.
+Do not place everything against the walls, it doesn't look very inspired.
Are you dealing with a very large space? If so, try dividing the room into separate functions and spatial arrangements. Whether it's arranging furniture to delineate the space or hanging dividers and curtains, break up the room to make separate and more intimate spaces.
+Clutter is not attractive, if you don't use something, don't keep it in the room!
+Arrange your furniture so it draws focus to your focal point, this keeps the room looking tidy and with purpose.
