Marine oil spills cause too much harm to the aquatic ecosystem, and the effects of such oil spills daunt the sea for a very long time. The Gulf Oil Spill is a standing example. Even after eleven months, the environmental disaster in the Gulf continues to be one of the top concerns among environmental activists.

The recent incident wherein, more than 80 dead bottlenose dolphins were discovered in the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama in the United States points to the after effects of the Gulf Oil Spill.

Still more distressing about the incident is the fact that nearly half of the dead dolphins were new born, or still born dolphin calves! Even though these dead dolphins did not show any outward symptoms of oil pollution, scientists are inspecting the carcasses to find possible petrochemical poisoning due to the massive BP oil spill in the ocean.

Dolphins, being the most human-friendly mammal, have fascinated us by their brilliant instincts and fantastic capability to communicate with humans. In several instances, dolphins even have helped humans from drowning ships. Such heroic dolphins are now facing a severe life threat due to human negligence! Absolutely ironic, isn't it? If you are one of those explicit animal lovers, then you will certainly sense a pain in your stomach!

Wondering what you can do to reverse the oil spill damage and save these ailing dolphins? Well, if you happen to find any ailing dolphins along the shore, then report it to the concerned rescue team immediately. Giving basic first aid like cleaning the wounds and cuts, or moving it away from the oil soaked sand helps a lot. You can also organize a fund raising campaign to employ more workers in rescue operations.
