HDMI Cables - Why Quality Matters

While there is a general consensus in the technology world today that HDMI cables are the way to go

, there is still a high level of debate whether high-end expensive models are worth the cost manufacturers are asking. The simple fact is that no matter which kind of HDMI cable you invest in, as long as it has been certified, it will be capable of transmitting data faster and at a higher quality than anything before it. It is one cable that has many uses, from television and gaming systems to DVD and Blu-ray players.

However, it is the varying capabilities that act to alter the price you pay for your HDMI cable. Issues of compatibility have been faced by consumers since the first update to HDMI cables in 2004. Sure, it is one cable that can do it all, but finding the perfect one for the application is essential to have a working setup. HDMI cables have only been around since 2002, yet three major updates have already occurred. The initial V1.0 is, understandably, the most basic HDMI cable available. As you might expect, the newer the version, the more money you will pay to obtain it. Before you get gung-ho and prepare to equip your home theatre with the latest V1.4, be sure your system supports it.

On the reverse side, consider the fact that your new equipment may not function at its highest level with older HDMI cable models. Using a lower version than what is standard to your equipment could either lower the quality or not function properly at all. Apart from equipment and cable compatibility, consider that the quality of the cable you buy has a huge affect on its performance. The longer the cable is, the higher quality it must be if you want to avoid degraded signal strengths that are prevalent in longer HDMI cables.

In a perfect world, there would literally be one cable that fit all circumstances, but unfortunately, because of different manufacturers and the ever-changing world of technology, this is not the case. There will always be good HDMI cables and excellent HDMI cables. The good news is that the difference between these is becoming slighter as manufacturers master their processing and the requirement to have cables licensed has become more enforced. The newer the equipment you have, the more important having a high-quality HDMI cable will become. For the latest version, check out the newest V1.4 cables.
