HP DesignJet Z5200 – 44 Inch Large Format PostScript Printer
HP DesignJet Z5200 44 Inch Large Format PostScript Printer
For those who are interested in bringing A1, full color print capabilities into their business, the revolutionary HP DesignJet Z5200 is the first place to look. HP's DesignJet series of in-house large format printers not only allows businesses the option of owning their own A1 unit, but also simplifies the entire large format printing process by automating many of the steps found on industrial grade machines.
With operating speeds that are relatively fast considering what the device is capable of, the HP DesignJet Z5200 can save countless hours of back and forth trips to the copy mat. With line drawings capable of printing at 42 seconds per page on A1 paper, or about 42.1 prints per hour, even large quantities of draft work is possible. Color images can be tweaked through a large range of print resolutions, but fast color mode operates at 41 m/hr (445 ft/hr) on plain media while best image quality operates at a speed of 5.1 min/page on A1/D or up to 5.4 m/hr (58 ft/hr) on glossy media. Though these speeds are difficult to interpret, as a general rule we can see that full size prints run at a rate of about one to five minutes per page.
Margins run very small at 5 x 5 x 5 x 5 mm or 0.2 inches for regular rolls of paper, and borderless printing is made possible on glossy or satin roll media. Sheets can print with a border as small as 5 x 17 x 5 x 5 mm. Print resolution runs very high, as expected, at a maximum of up to 2400 x 1200 dots per inch. The technology used to make this type of printing possible is HP's thermal inkjet which provides for great color accuracy as well as a very small ink drop.
HP Vivera pigment inks are the driving force behind the HP DesignJet Z5200's superior performance, and come in the colors cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan, light gray, light magenta, matte black, and photo black. Standard ink types (C, M, Y, mK) can operate as small as 6 picoliters, while the specialty inks have a droplet even smaller, of 4 pl. The ink cartridges themselves come in either 300 ml or 120 ml sizes for standard or high yield options, and the printer's line accuracy is measured at an incredible +/- 0.2%.
The printer itself occupies a decent amount of space, and takes up 70 in. x 27.2. x 41.2 in. of it, while weighing a whopping total of 189 pounds. It also puts off a notable amount of noise when in operation and has a sound pressure of 49 dB(A). It's maximum power consumption, on the other hand, is actually very reasonable at 170 watts, meaning that, regardless of the immense overall operating cost, the unit is at least energy efficient. While the HP DesignJet Z5200, with its five thousand dollar price tag, is not for everyone, users who require in-house full color A1 printing should be pleased with it.
