Hair extensions are perfect for improvising on your boring hairstyle to give you the ideal solution for an immediate and attractive makeover. They help you add on length, thickness and volume in just a few hours and highlight your hair in an excellent way. Hair extensions get attached to your natural hair through various techniques like bonding, fusion methods, clip in, heat sealing, sewing in, braiding, etc. The task does not just end with getting a hair extension done but also extends to caring and maintaining them. Each of these styles has its own set of guidelines for maintenance. After all, now that you have spent so much money in getting your new look you should also spend some time in maintaining it. Washing tips: Do not wash your hair for a minimum of 48 hours after the process. This allows time for the newly set hair to get bonded firmly and avoid shedding of hair at a later stage.
Do not wash hair more than twice a week.
Use shampoos/conditioners that are recommended for hair extensions. Avoid using any shampoo/conditioners with an oily effect or the 2-in-1 products.
If in case your hair is oily in nature and secretes oils from the roots, you must wash your hair every day. Take care not to overstress your hair extensions, as the oils may lead to the extension strands to slip and fall.
It is better to use a clarifying shampoo before fitting in the hair extensions. This would help remove all the oils and clean the sebum glands from the hair roots.
Always wash hair in one direction and avoid tangling or washing forward inside a basin.
Brush hair thoroughly prior to washing.
Apply conditioner only at hair ends and never on the roots.
Do not go in for oil treatments or apply oil on hair extensions. Brushing tips:
Start brushing from the bottom and proceed upwards while holding your hair with the other hand.
Be sure to use only a hair extension brush; normal ones can lead to breakage of set hair along with natural hair.
Do not force your brush over the bonds and use gentle strokes for the roots.
Use fingers to separate the hair knots.
Brush hair twice a day. Sleeping tips:
Tie up hair in a loose braid before going to sleep.
Do not sleep with wet hair.
Brush hair once before going to sleep. Styling tips:
Do not go in for tight knots or styles for first 2 weeks.
Never tighten up the hair when wet.
Do not let the styling gels and products come in contact with the bonds.
Avoid using styling products having harsh chemicals.
You can go in for heat blow-dry, curling, straightening, etc.
Do not use heat styling over the bonds.
Do not perm your hair and use colours free of ammonia and peroxide. Lifestyle tips:
Take care to wash and condition hair after swimming and exercise.
Remember to cover hair in towel while tanning. Follow up diligently on your maintenance appointments once in 3 months. For more information about human hair extensions, please visit Additional Lengths
