Hair Loss - Alternative solutions

I suffer from balding

I suffer from balding. I am a balder. There it is, out in the open, everyone knows it, I am free.

It is because of this affliction that I have researched balding and how to stop the ever receding the mass immigration of hair folliclesis.

I know thats not a word.

Anyway I thought that I would share my finding for what it's worth.

Hair loss stopping it.

IMPORTANT:

You cannot grow back hair, if there is no hair follicle to grow back. You will need a hair transplant for this.

The only hair you can grow back is thinning and dormant hair. This is why it's important to combat hair loss in it's early stages.

95% of hair loss is caused by the build up of DHT (Dihydrotestosterone).

The hormone felt to be directly involved in "Androgenetic Alopecia" is actually dihydrotestosterone (DHT) rather than testosterone. DHT is formed by the action of the enzyme 5-a reductase on testosterone. DHT acts by binding to special receptor sites on the cells of the hair follicles to cause the specific changes associated with balding. You need to block DHT to stop Androgenetic Alpoecia (Genetic Balding) When a person gets older, the body accumulates bigger amounts of DHT and thick strong fast-growing hair becomes thinner, shorter and grows slowly.

Androgenetic Alopecia

Androgenetic Alopecia, commonly referred to as 'genetic balding,' is the main cause of male and female hair loss. This genetic 'programming' accounts for 95% of male hair loss.

For baldness to occur three factors need to be present:

1.The presence of androgens, or male hormones.

2. A genetic predisposition to balding.

3. Time for the DHT to degrade the vulnerable hair follicles.

While they comprise less than ten percent of permanent hair loss, there are several other causes of hair loss like stress, nutrition, health, age and hormones, that can cause temporary as well as permanent hair loss.

What dose not work?

Rogain / Regain / Nioxin and most hair shampoos tonics..

This treatment has a poor success rate and only works in the small percentage of people who's hair loss is attributed to poor blood circulation.

So what does stop hair loss?|

Well the number one perscription drug is Propecia and Proscar (yes the prostate pill) Procerin. OK so you new that. These treatment are expensive. But there is a more affordable and equally effective alternative.

Equally effective natural alternatives:

Saw Palermeto (serna repeans, Sabal serrulata and Serenoa repens)

Nettle Root (Urtica dioica and Urtica urens) Yes both these are commonly available natural products.

Why do these natural alternatives work?

Saw Palmetto has been extensively studied over the past several years for the treatment of enlarged prostate in men (BPH). Saw Palmetto Extract, which is a known antiandrogen, is the liposerolic extract of the Saw Palmetto fruit. Saw Palmetto has shown to effectively block the formation of DHT and is also believed to prevent the binding of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) to androgen receptors which are also found at the follicles, it also blocks Type 1 and Type 2 forms of 5-Alpha-Reductase.

Saw Palmetto is the active ingredient in Revivogen from Advanced Hair studio, Procerin and many other hair loss products.

Saw Palmetto for BPH:

A recent survey found that some 85 percent of urologists would treat moderate prostate problems with one or more of those prescription drugs, whose combined sales approached $1 billion last year.

Finasteride (proscar) shrinks the prostate by decreasing production of DHT. It works best in the minority of patients with BPH whose gland is greatly enlarged. Few studies have compared finasteride with saw palmetto. But in one six-month trial of more than 1,000 BPH patients, the drug increased urinary flow by 30 percent, while the herbal remedy boosted flow by a comparable 25 percent. What's more, the herbal did not cause the most troublesome side effect of finasteride: erectile dysfunction in about 9 percent of men. And unlike the drug, saw palmetto doesn't interfere with the standard prostate specific antigen (PSA) cancer-screening test.

We could conclude that while yes Finasteride (proscar) does work, Saw Palmetto also works but without the side effects.

Nettle Root:

Nettle Root like Saw Palmetto has a long history for it use in treating BPH it also has been used extensively to treat asthma, diabetes, kidney infections, arthritis, coughs. An interesting action of nettle root is in its testosterone and estrogen-enhancing qualities, attributed to having aphrodisiac qualities.

What makes nettle so unique is its chemical composition featuring a wide array of healing components. It contains vitamins C and E, serotonin, formic acid, choline, chlorophyll, flavonoids, carotenoids, lecithin, caffeic acids, and beneficial minerals. Some chemical agents of nettle root block the enzyme 5a-reductase.

Why choose Saw Palmetto and Nettle Root.

1: These are significantly cheaper than all other effective pharmaceutical drugs.

2: Studies are showing in the case of Saw Palmetto equally significant results.

3: There are few if any side effects the same can not be said for the others.

4: Saw Palmetto and nettle root helps with BPH

How to use Saw Palmetto and Nettle Root

I suggest using both, one in pill form the other as topical treatment. The first to combat the development of DHT and the other to block and remove DHT in the hair follicle.

Saw Palmetto -Sabal serrulata and Serenoa repens

Saw Palmetto is best used as an internal treatment (pill form)

It is best as an extract not a whole berry.

Recomended dosage is two 160 mg per day.

You can buy Saw Palmetto also know as Sabal serrulata; Serenoa repens from online pharmacys and health food stores and in your local supermarket. It is often labelled as a prostate treatment.

It is often more then one third the price of prescription products.

Nettle Root -Urtica dioica and Urtica urens.

Nettle oil is, probably, the most powerful of nettle infusions. It is usually manufactured by mixing extra-virgin, cold-pressed olive oil with nettle root extracts.

For centuries, this powerful herbal oil has been proven very effective in restoring dull, thinning hair. An anti-inflammatory remedy, nettle oil should be massaged into the scalp and hair at least once a week, to combat dandruff, dry hair, and an itchy, irritated scalp. Apply gently warmed nettle oil onto your scalp about one hour before shampooing, massage vigorously into the leather and especially inflamed areas, and leave there for more effective absorption. Nettle oil can also be left on the scalp and hair overnight. Long-term nettle applications are known to improve scalp psoriasis, eczema, and various types of dermatitis - the conditions which often result in the fall of hair. A hypersensitive skin reacts to nettle root oil especially well: weekly scalp massages are a great treatment that helps reduce inflammation, heal irritated areas, and reverse related hair loss.

One again you can buy this online and from health stores.

How Long till results:

With all treatments you need to stick at it. The hair grows in cycles so results will be best after 9 - 12 months. You may see results sooner but this really depends on where you are in the hair growth cycle.

This is true for all hair treatments for genetic balding herbal or pharmaceutical.

Precautions:

The use of herbs is a time-honored approach to strengthening the body and treating disease. Herbs, however, can trigger side effects and can interact with other herbs, supplements, or medications. For these reasons, you should take herbs with care, under the supervision of a health care provider.

Saw palmetto is generally thought to be safe a when used as directed. Side effects are very rare, although mild stomach complaints and minor headaches may occur. In at least one case, significant bleeding during surgery was attributed to saw palmetto.

Do not self-treat for BPH with saw palmetto; see your doctor for a proper diagnosis to rule out prostate cancer first.

Saw palmetto may have effects similar to some hormones, and should not be used in pregnant or nursing women, or women who have had or are at risk for hormone related cancers.

Saw palmetto may interfere with the absorption of iron.

Possible Interactions:

Finasteride(Proscar)-- Because saw palmetto may work similarly to finasteride (Proscar), you should not use this herb in combination with finasteride or other medications used to treat BPH.

Antiplatelet and anticoagulant drugs (blood-thinners)-- Saw palmetto may affect the blood's ability to clot, and could interfere with blood-thinning drugs, including:

Warfarin (Coumadin)

Clopidogrel (Plavix)

Aspirin

Oral contraceptives-- Because saw palmetto may have hormone-like effects, it may make oral contraceptives less effective, raising the risk of unplanned pregnancy.
