If you are not a hair dresser by profession, hair scissors need not be of highest quality, as long as it would function efficiently. But if you have hair styling as a profession, you cannot simply settle for a typical hair scissors, you must avail one of the high-end ones. It would even be better to own a set of scissors, to serve a variety of styles.

Scissors are available in different types, to serve the varying hair styles and the hair stylist's manner of cutting. Curved blades are specifically designed so that cutting around the ear area would be much easier, and that shaping would be accurately done. For long, flowing hair, long-bladed scissor types should be used, for short, layered hairdos, shorter blades would work best.

When it comes to hair texture and volume, there are hair scissors which feature small grooves on its blade in order to hold the hair in a straight position while the cutting process is done. These would be advantageous especially when cutting thick, unruly hair strands.

It would be important to know these in order for a hairdresser to handle any hair type and achieve any desired hair style.

However, hair scissors should be properly maintained and used for it to function properly. These tools should only be used to cut clean hair strands, without any other styling chemicals. This would leave the hair scissors from having any trace of film residue; otherwise it would cause the blades to become blunt. To prevent this incident, these styling instruments should be regularly wiped clean and lubricated with mild oil. You can also wash it in warm water, opening the blades wide so as to remove the dirt and stain which were stuck in the hair scissors. Rinse them completely and carefully wipe them dry with a clean piece of cloth. Upon applying oil to the scissor blades, open and close the entire length of the blades in order for the oil to be spread out.
