Step One:Consultation

During the consultation, the exact extent of your baldness and quality of your hair will be assessed. The number of grafts required and where they will be placed is planned. Cyclic medicine treatment for 2-4 months is usually recommended to strengthen the donor hair roots. This treatment is proven to improve the result of hair transplantation.

Step Two: Preoperative Evaluation

After 2-4 months of cyclic medicine therapy Hair Transplantation procedure can be planned. Routine blood tests are advised. You will be given the consent forms for signing and will be given detailed preoperative instructions in writing.

Step Three: Surgery

You report at the clinic on the morning of surgery. You will need to have light breakfast and hair wash before coming to clinic.

At clinic donor hair area at the back of the head is marked and that strip like area is shaved

Antiseptic hair wash is given. Then you are shifted to operation area where you first lie on your stomach on operation table. Local anaesthesia is injected in the head skin for painless removal of hair strip. Then a strip of scalp (head skin) including the hair growing on it, is removed (cut out). The gap is closed with hidden buried stitches. In the end there is a line like scar . But there are no stitches to be removed and no bald area.

The donor skin strip containing hair is processes by trained assistants . Hair follicles are dissected making individual hair follicles ready for transplanting.

After this you lie comfortably on table on your back or in reclining position. Once again local anaesthesia is injected into the forehead to make your procedure painless. Then individual follicles are planted into the bald area or in between the hair in balding area. Tiny holes are created with injection needle and hair follicle is planted into the holes one by one.

The whole procedure can take 3-6 hrs or more depending on the number of grafts used. You are allowed breaks for lunch and for restroom. You are conscious and comfortable during the procedure. You can sleep off , watch TV or listen to music during the surgery.

Step Four: After Surgery

You can wear cap to protect the grafts from dust. A small dressing will be there on the back of your head which you can remove yourself after 2 days. There will nor be any head bandage. You look practically same as before except the tiny hair roots and scabs on the grafted area. You can leave soon after surgery in a car/cab. You will be given list of antibiotics and pain tablets for 5 days along with care instructions.

Step Five: Recovery and Final Result

Pain is moderate to minimal after surgery .There is some swelling on forehead and around the eyes for 2-3 days .The donor area on the back does not require any stitch removal or special care. It is not apparent to others . Only telltale sign of hair transplantation is small tiny spots (scabs) at the grafted bald area of head. You can either wear a cap to avoid questions or else stay at home for 10 days, by which time the scabs fall off and head looks completely natural. New hair is very small (just a few millimeters) so you look as before surgery. These implanted hair fall off in a couple of weeks. The implanted roots are intact and they start growing new hair after completion of 4 months. Then the new hair grows longer at the rate of 1 cm (averagely) per month. As each hair grows longer and thicker the overlap of adjacent hair gives appearance of increasing density. Final look and density is achieved by the end of one year.
