If you are not lucky enough to have a garden but crave the colours and scents of flowers, then hanging baskets may be a good option for you.You can realistically put whatever you want into them, whether you love a herb garden or if you prefer tomatoes or strawberries; the choice is yours and they are so easy to keep and look after.

Soil is then added to the basket, and you can then plant whatever you like in them. If you are worried about everything staying together then you can line them with a porous plastic to keep it all in one.

If you have a space outside a kitchen window then why not create a hanging herb garden, full of herbs that you use for cooking on a daily basis? Basil, rosemary and oregano have strong scents that will fill your kitchen with glorious aromas when the window is open, and they will all add to the taste and flavours of your cooking.

Outside the front of the home, opt for easy care plants like Bizzie lizzies and pansies, that you can plant, water and not worry about. Make sure you water the top soil if it feels dry, but be careful not to waterlog the plants otherwise they will suffer. If you have the facility to add a drip system then do so, as you will have to worry less about their water levels.

Hanging baskets are heavy, so take into account the hook on which they are secured. Remember that when you add water, the basket will become heavier still, so ensure they are sturdily fixed and if you need to life them on and off that you do so properly or ask someone to help you out.
