You need to stop using them, unplug the power cable and clean them all to avoid any moisture etc. This is especially important for the fridge, clothes dryer, blender and coffee maker.
* Sort out stuff into groups. You can create room groups, like all living room and kitchen stuff comes in their respective groups. This is a really fast way of wrapping up and packing the items as you will tackle one room at a time.
* Store all electronic equipment including the home-theater, audio systems in their own boxes. Try to pack them using packing and protection material like they were packed and delivered to your doorstep by the manufacturer. Keep every cable and extension of these machines well labeled so that you can plug them in and set them up quickly in your new home.
* Do not over pack cardboard boxes. Give the kids the task of labeling every box with what it has. Make them write down the new address on each box to help them remember their new address.
* Pack the heavier items in smaller boxes and the lighter things in large boxes. Keeping the weight of each box down is very important.
* Keep the first aid box on the top and label it properly.
* Always keep the things you are going to need immediately in your new home in a separate box, well labeled. Things like toilet paper, telephone, toiletries, snacks, coffee (and pot), soap, flashlight, screwdriver, pliers, can opener, paper plates, cups will be needed immediately in your new home, soon after your arrival- so keep them separately and load the box last so that it will be unloaded first.
* Remember to instruct your movers with the right address, contact numbers and alternate contact numbers. You must also take a note of your shipment registration number so that you can call and questions about your shipment.
