Have Spices Readily Available Using Wooden Cabinets

For those who cook regularly, being able to put their fingers on the exact ingredient

at the crucial time is vital to having a meal come out just right. Spices, for example, play an important role in the success or failure of a dish. Whether it is a pinch of salt to make the pot of water boil faster or a sprinkle of nutmeg to add aroma and flavor to a pie, keeping spices at the ready can be done in a variety of ways. Rooting through the top shelf of a deep kitchen cabinet is not the best method, as most containers are the same height and many have the same color lid. When something is simmering and needs a certain spice at that exact moment, rummaging around for it will likely ruin both the dish and the meal. Keeping spices in an organized cabinet, shelf or rack makes them easily accessible and plain to see when they are about to run out. A full survey of spices on display may also inspire the cook to experiment with something new and tasty on a whim.

Cabinet

Having a designated spice cabinet with a door is helpful for those who do not use herbs and spices frequently, but still keep a collection. Having a door on it prevents a build-up of dust on the containers. They should be easy to see and access. Wooden spice cabinets can be mounted in a wall or on a wall. Certain specifications are required to mount shelving into an existing wall, and the details can be provided by the manufacturer. An in-wall mount reduces the chances of people bumping into them in tight quarters and gives the slightly novel appearance that the kitchen was built for the spice cabinet, not the other way around. An on-the-wall mount protects the integrity of the wall structure and gives versatility to the way the kitchen is set up with shelves and appliances.

Rack

A spice rack does not have a door. The herbs and spices are organized on a rack that is quick and easy to access. The containers will not likely collect dust because they are used frequently. The accomplished and busy cook tends to spin about in the kitchen and select a spice as needed. Opening a cabinet door will only slow them down and hinder progress in the kitchen. A wall spice rack openly displays all containers label-first. When stored in alphabetical order, the contents are easiest to find, use and return. For those with a vast collection, spice racks come in a variety of sizes, widths and distance between shelves.
