Have The Rich Conquered Ny?

Home construction in NY is getting more and more expensive nowadays

. Blame it on the nouveau rich and the old guard: they have acquired most of the prime real estate in New York City. The Guggenheims, the Rockefellers and the newly made men and women that have chosen to live in New York City have made Manhattan their own personal playground. Can you blame them? New York, or rather Manhattan, the small island in the middle of the city is now without a doubt the center of the world. It is the new Rome, some might say.

Because the rich have procured all the best prime real estate properties in the city, all the other brokers and real estate agents have begun to sell at higher prices: too much for your average New Yorker. As it stands today, the average two bedroom apartment can cost more than a million dollars even if it is not located at a good spot. New custom home construction can be tricky because of the number of people that would want to live in New York.

General contracting NY is a very lucrative business today. Building a home from scratch will net up to millions of dollars depending on the location and especially if it is closer to the city. You can opt for New Jersey as most suburban types do but it will still be expensive. As it is, remodeling in Woodridge, a suburban village in Sullivan County in the state of New York, can fetch up to tens of thousands of dollars depending on who you call. Even painting in NY is expensive nowadays.

When will this all end? When will the prices come down? Even with the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the home prices have stubbornly stayed at a high price. But the true question is, would you really want it to? History suggests that whenever the rich and affluent decides to lose interest living in a city, everything else comes down with them like dominoes. Just look at Cleveland or Philadelphia. When they were big booming cities as they had a lot of natural resources, the rich people lived there. When they decided to leave for other places like New York and California, all other industries went down with them. Now Im not saying that these cities are poor per se, but if you compare them to the Empire State that is New York City, it pales in comparison does it not? The rich have created their own bubble economy in NYC, butlers, agents, chauffeurs, and many other employees are getting paid by these families somewhere along the lines of $600 billion in total. That is a lot of money that if it disappears, what will remain of New York? I say it will be an empty husk of a once great city. Should the rich leave New York? You may want them to, but in my opinion, the alternative will be much much worse.
