Having Fun With Modular Workstations

My office does not use cubicles in the strict sense of the word

. Instead for the most part, a majority of the office is made up of a series of modular workstations. Modular stations are designed to be pretty open and I think it suits the office culture and personality pretty well. Most of the employees here are not only very hard-working people, we are also very outgoing, entertaining, and fun to hang out with. Considering these facts about the office, I think having us sit in stereotypicalx office cubicles would not sit well at all.

Since we are all personalities of a sort, we have each made our modular workstations our own by decorating them. For instance, one of my colleagues has some family portraits hanging on her wall while another has a small painting on hers. As for me, I just got moved into this office so I still have some time it my own; that reminds me, I have to go out and buy office furniture that I forgot to take care of when I was hired on. With that aside, I have some ideas about what I want to put on my desk and walls. I am a fan of tattoos and tattoo art so I am thinking about framing a sketch my tattoo artist made for me a couple of weeks ago; I think it will look great on my wall! I also need to buy a picture frame so I can put pictures of my family in it; I might even get a digital frame and just download my pictures into it. Lastly I think I will get a small cactus to set on my desk. Why? I honestly have no clue, except I think it would just look funny on my desk.

I like the fact that our modular stations are so open to each other. While we can easily get our work done - naturally we have to do the tasks required of us - we can also speak to each other every now and then. Besides cracking a few jokes, making each other laugh, and talking about the day, the open nature of the office allows us to easily throw ideas back and forth between each other. This removes the inherent barrier, both physical and otherwise, typical cubicles have. None of us have to be burdened by the fact that we have to walk to our neighbor's desk and ask them something mundane; we can just call over to them when we need to.

Having an office as open as ours boosts productivity and employee morale; companies should make note of what that mean for them if they are considering using modular workstations.
