Common household items that have hazardous material like batteries, paints, electronic gadgets etc. should be taken special care of while disposing. Proper disposing of the waste should be taken as a personal initiative. According to law set forth by the EPA some kinds of waste, usually Hazardous Material Disposal must be properly disposed of.

Toxic waste can seep into the ground and contaminate our water supplies, and sometimes cause widespread disease. Even pollution caused by non-toxic waste contributes to global warming and impacts health of general public negatively. Latest study by EPA suggests that global warming could make earth almost inhospitable by the end of the century. People disposing of waste properly are doing their bit of protecting the environment, as it almost always leads to added improvements to the public health. Less pollution means lesser chances of respiratory illness, and cleaner water lessens the risk of drinking dangerous chemicals. An example of the potential dangers of improper dumping occurred in New Jersey during 1980's when wind carried chromium from a nearby dump to a local school and caused chromium poisoning.

Few instructions to dispose of hazardous material safely are:

1. You can decide best way to dispose of waste by deciding the most hazardous element of it. Solidify all possible hazardous liquid by using materials such as saw dust or paper. When done, collect the material in a plastic bag and take it to the garbage;

2. Material such as pesticides, herbicides, oil paints, paint cleaners and oil and transmission fluids should be send an appropriate disposal department nearest to you. Make sure that the packaging is secure;

3. Take all electronics including TV CRTs, batteries and cell phones to hazardous solid waste collection centers.
