Weve recently had a new dog from a rescue centre and Ive got to admit however lovely he is hes currently a lot of hard work
. Im sure itll all settle down and hes got a heart of gold so Im sure its all quieten down and hell be perfect but at the moment hes testing everyones patience.
We wanted to home an older dog because we felt sorry for the older ones which get left behind because everyone wants younger dogs but the problem is that he is very much set in his ways and the old saying you cant teach an old dog, new tricks comes to mind. He did go to the toilet in the house a few times which was rather annoying but we have managed to thankfully get him out of the habit. You cant blame him I suppose as when theyre in the kennels they go to the toilet anywhere and there isnt the separation of doing your business away from where you sleep.
He keeps jumping up on the sofas which is annoying as theyre leather and they scratch easily but I suppose he is so desperate to be near us he doesnt see it as a problem but were slowly (and I mean slowly!) getting him out of the habit.
He doesnt like being left on his own at the moment an the first time we left him, even though it was for 30 minutes he chewed the skirting off the wall and started on the door. I couldnt believe it, there were pieces of skirting all over the floor and I dread to think how much was inside him. My husband got to work contacting skirting boards companies so that we could fix it before guests came around but the very next time he was left for only 15 minutes the skirting boards were ruined again. Its costing us a small fortune but hopefully well get him there soon enough. I suppose hes just got to settle into his new routine and now that he cant do it. Ill keep you posted on our progress.
