Situated just three miles from the coast, this busy place is surrounded by the lovely countryside of the Glaven Valley and, perhaps because of the many farms and arable land around it, it has kept its quirky, country charm. Gresham's has got fabulous facilities, including a wonderful theatre dedicated to one of its old boys, W.H. Auden, while composer Benjamin Britten and inventor James Dyson are also names that have come from here.

Spend a weekend break Norfolk and you may well see other, more modern-day celebrities - the Duchess of Cornwall has been spotted shopping in Bakers & Larners on the High Street, while TV star Toby Stephens and his partner, former Holby City star Anna-Louise Plowman, were recently seen having a bite to eat in the town.

And it's no wonder that they head to North Norfolk hotels, as there is plenty to keep them occupied, from tucked-away shopping areas full of interesting boutiques, to art exhibitions, concerts, comedy and plays during the annual Holt Summer Festival.

Indeed, this charming place is perfectly located for all sorts of holidays, from cycling or bird-watching breaks to walking tours; you'll also see lots of people in classic cars.

But for those who'd rather make the most of Norfolk luxury hotels and simply eat, drink and be merry, there are also plenty of places here for people-watching and whiling away the time.
