Healthy Vs. Unhealthy Weight Loss

There are many different ways to go about losing weight

, but it really comes down to two main types. There is the healthy way and there is the unhealthy way. The healthy way would consist of losing the weight slowly over time through the use of exercise and slight calorie deficits. The unhealthy way would be starving yourself with or without the use of exercise.

When you starve yourself the weight that you lose will be fat as well as muscle. Ideally when you lose weight you would just want to lose the fat and to do so, you would need just a slight deficit in calories. Not only is this healthier because you're not overly starving your body, but you are also allowing the weight loss to be gradual. Gradual weight loss tends to stay off longer because people develop better eating habits when it takes them a long time to lose the weight. Gradual weight loss also takes much longer to plateau because it will take your body longer to adjust to the slightly reduced amount of calories.

Starving your body is just plain unhealthy. You are eliminating the energy your body needs to perform its daily tasks. Starving yourself causes your body to enter a catatonic state which is the breakdown of muscle. The human body is very capable of adapting to whatever situation it is thrown into. When you starve yourself your metabolism will slow down to account for the reduced amount of calories. This is bad for several different reasons. It will force your weight loss to come to a screeching halt, and when you do finally consume any amount of calories they will quickly be stored as fat to make sure you have energy in the near future.

One of the biggest fat burning myths out there is that you can burn off fat cells. This is entire false. No matter how you decide to lose the weight you will still have the same number of fat cells in your body. The fat cells themselves just deflate when you lose weight. Don't let this discourage you though, losing weight in a healthy manner in the best way to go about it.

Exercise and physically is extremely important when it comes to losing weight. Increasing the amount of physical activity will not only increase the calories you burn in a given day, but it will provide a temporary boost to your metabolism. Boosting your metabolism will greatly increase the rate at which you will burn off fat.

Losing weight can be a tedious, but it best to keep your body in optimal shape when doing it. A healthy way is the surest fire way to lose the weight and to keep the weight off. Don't allow yourself think that starving yourself is the best way to lose weight. It's just plain unhealthy!
