Hemorrhoidectomy Recovery-What is the Recovery Period for a Hemorrhoidectomy Procedure?

Hemorrhoidectomy Recovery-What is the Recovery Period for a Hemorrhoidectomy Procedure

?

Generally a hemorrhoidectomy recovery will take between 6-8 weeks but this will obviously vary from patient to patient. You need to avoid heavy lifting for up to 3 weeks after the hemorrhoidectomy procedure and generally you will be able to return to work after about 2 weeks once your physician has seen you.

The hemorrhoidectomy procedure itself involves your surgeon removing excessive tissue that causes bleeding and can be carried out under local or general anesthetic depending on how chronic your hemorrhoid condition is.

A hemorrhoidectomy is one of the most complete ways to provide the sufferer with relief but it also carries quite a few complications. These can include difficulty in urinating and urinary tract infections. Most people will suffer some pain after the procedure and warm baths and various medications can provide great relief at this time.

Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy Recovery

A stapled hemorrhoidectomy recovery period is generally less than that of a full hemorrhoidectomy and will allow an earlier recovery. Stapling involves blocking the blood flow to the hemorrhoidal tissue but whilst it is less painful it can also carry complications such as rectal prolapse and a greater frequency incidence of recurrence of your hemorrhoids problem.

Hemorrhoidectomy Prevention

To prevent the need for a hemorrhoidectomy and the symptoms of hemorrhoids you will need to address a number of issues-

1. Improve your diet with a greater intake of high fiber foods including grains, fruit and vegetables which will soften your stools.

2. Increase your consumption of liquids, especially water as this too will lead to a softer stool and less straining while going to the toilet.

3. Don't delay when you feel the urge to go to the toilet as this will lead to the stool hardening and a greater risk of straining and consequently hemorrhoids problems.

4. Take plenty of exercise which will allow you to lose some weight and reduce pressure on your veins with the consequence of hemorrhoids occurring.

So, your hemorroidectomy recovery period is as outline above but you should try to ensure that you prevent hemorrhoids from occurring by following the tips above and you can always look at other hemorrhoid treatments

Hemorrhoid Treatments

Other less invasive procedures for treating your condition include rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy(injection) and coagulation (bipolar, laser or infrared).

Rubber Band Ligation

This involves placing rubber bands around the base of an internal hemorrhoid to cut off it's blood circulation and the resulting withering and falling off of the hemorrhoid.

Sclerotherapy

This involves injecting a chemical solution into the hemorrhoid which causes it to shrink.

Coagulation

Coagulation involves laser or infrared heat or light and again the idea is to harden and shrink the internal hemorrhoid but this treatment is not overly successful.
