For years now, Mexico hospitals have been a gold standard for medical travel

Construction, wages, and real estate prices are much lower in Mexico vs. the U.S. Healthcare, supplies and state-of-the-art equipment cost doctors in Mexico much less than the doctor operating the same type of facility in the United States. Of course, it is the patient who reaps the benefit in savings.

The Impact of Insurance Companies

Most people in the United States agree that the insurance system is overpriced and unfair. What coverage is available through most individual plans costs too much, and will pay for much too little. Because of the number of people holding insurance policies, the insurance companies have tremendous power over the doctors who take care of those people. The insurance company can decide which doctors they will allow patients to see, and which will not be on the plan. Because of that, they have a lot of say in what the doctors can and cannot do.

In Mexico hospitals, insurance companies are not a determining factor in health care costs. The lower prices for common procedures such as angioplasty, hip replacement and gastric bypass surgery mean that many U.S. insurance companies have begun reimbursing U.S. patients for surgeries performed in Mexico.
