The first inflatable structure was designed in 1959 by John Scurlock Shreveport; Louisiana who was experimenting with inflatable covers for tennis courts when he noticed his employees enjoyed jumping on the covers. He was a mechanical engineer and liked physics. John was a pioneer of inflatable domes, inflatable tents, inflatable signs and his greatest achievement was the invention of the safety air cushion that is used by fire and rescue departments to catch people jumping from buildings or heights.

So, this is the interesting invention story of much beloved bouncy castles. As, time passes, new advancements in castles evolved and this became a roaring industry. In present scenario, people hire bouncy castles for functions, school and church festivals and village fetes and used for recreational purposes, mainly used by children.

Clown Bounce, Disco Bounce, Fun house, Fantasy Castle, Giant Castle side, Deep Sea, Jurassic Play etc are the different names given for different structured inflated castles or more popularly Bouncy Castles.

There are several game companies which manufacture these castles in various structures and sizes. Anybody can even hire them on day basis or hour basis for personal parties, ceremonies etc. Children are keen fascinated towards bouncy castles and want to play with them. It is absolutely safe but number of persons at a time must be checked. If weight limit exceeds, then it results in bursting of castles.

Some inflatables are designed to allow games such as boxing rings, water football, penalty shootouts, basketball, tug of war, and gladiator duels. These interactive inflatable games are made out of the same material that a continuous airflow bounce house is made of.

The artwork on most inflatable structures is hand-painted. It is cheaper for an artist to paint inflatables than to buy a printing machine or pay for a professional printer to print the artwork for a small quantity of inflatables. Now a days digital printing and screen printing are taken in use to create attractive bouncy castles.
