Beverly Hills is a part of Los Angeless Golden Triangle. An area that comprises Beverly Hills, Bel Air, and Holmby Hills. Originally a ranch land, Beverly Hills was bought by Amalgamated Oil Company in 1900. The company did not find any oil in the area and sold it to Rodeo Land and Water Company. The man behind the company, Burton E. Green, saw the potential of the land. He brought Wilbur D. Cook, an ace landscape architect, on board and directed him to design a city.

Cook envisioned a town with huge mansions facing each other across curving streets, where the roads would be all lined with a number of trees including palm and acacia. Cook was the man to give the name Beverly Hills to the area. He took his inspiration from the Beverly Farm in Massachusetts. The streets names were coined as we know them including Crescent, Rodeo, Bedford, and Burton Way. These were all were created and marked on the citys map.

The first person to build a home in Beverly Hills was Henry C. Clarke who bought two lots on Crescent Drive in 1907 and built his home there. There was a lull in land sales for a couple of years following that time but things began looking up in 1910 as lots were sold and palatial homes began going up everywhere in the area.

The year 1912 was special because this was when the Beverly Hills Hotel was constructed. The hotel filled a long felt gap in the social face of the city. It quickly became the hub of social activities in Beverly Hills. Every major wedding, party and get together was held in the one and only Beverly Hills Hotel. The city was growing steadily and the since the beginning took an exclusive feel. In 1914, Beverly Hills was incorporated, and in 1915 the tax rate was decided for the area. At that time it was $1.00 for each $100.00.

While the rest of the world was taking stock after the First World War, the rich and privileged were flocking to Beverly Hills. Douglas Fairbanks was among the first celebrity buyers as he got a plot in 1919 only to be followed by wealthy families from all across the country. Beverly Hills was unofficially referred to as the movie colony in 1928 as people from the industry had homes there including Harold Lloyd in 1928, Robert Montgomery, and John Barrymore. With these people coming in the area was firmly recognized as the home of the rich and the famous that lived in larger than life mansions.

Since then Beverly Hills has held on to its reputation as the home of the rich and the famous and people wishing to be a part of all that glamor are always looking out for new listings in Beverly Hills real estate.
