Holdem Lesson 3 Tips On Playing Cards Properly

Texas Holdem can sometimes be fun and other times be annoying, right? It's fun when you get good cards and win and it's not so fun when you get dealt bad cards and lose. But what if there was a way to always get dealt good cards?

I can't guarantee a Holdem lesson that teaches you how to always get good cards but what I can do is teach you how to play the cards you do get better. Now, you may be folding poor cards that you think are bad but in fact actually have some merit you just don't know it.

Play paint on paint. Any paint on paint you should be playing. What's paint?

Paint is slang for any king, queen or jack. When I personally say paint I mean aces as well but I don't think that's official. We'll call it Alex's slang, hehe. But yes paint is the very good cards. If you get any combination of these you should play it. Examples are

A-K, K-Q, Q-J, K-J, Q-Q, J-J etc.

Start considering all pocket pairs. You may only be playing strong pocket pairs because that is what you were told, or learnt, to do. I'm going to challenge you to play more pocket pairs.

Lower and middle pocket pairs are sometimes a great way to take massive wins. I remember a couple nights ago when I played pocket 6's. The flop came A-K-6. Bets and raises everywhere ended up with me and a guy at the showdown. The turn and river were like 2 and 7 or something. I busted his two pair Aces and Kings with my little old set of 6's.

He wasn't too happy.

Another slightly more risky but well worth it hand to play are middle-suited connectors. These are any middle cards that are consecutive and the same suit. For example, 6H-7H, or 5S-6S or 8D-9D etc.

The reason these are good is because you have straight and flush possibilities, which can come from nowhere and dominate top pairs, two and three of a kinds. The trick to these is that the flop must hit or put you in at least 1 cards reach of the nuts. If it doesn't don't chase it.

I'm sure you are aware that there are a lot of other weird and wonderful combinations of cards that you could play. And have you ever thought of playing different cards whether you are against one, two or three opponents? Interesting isn't it.

You're probably realizing that you have a lot more to learn in respects to which cards to play. I couldn't cover everything in this Holdem lesson but I do urge you to continue to look for and research new lessons and tips on how to play Holdem better because this is what all the really rich and successful poker players do they go out and learn what they need to know to win.
