Renee Zellweger spent time in Thailand during her second outing as Bridget Jones in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Filmed in and around Phuket, Bridget sampled the delights of the temples and the beaches and you can too. When it comes to temples, Thailand has plenty, each with its own story and its own group of saffron robed monks. Phuket has its own Chalong temple with a legendary history that makes it the pride of Phuket. There is also the Big Buddha on the hill, one of Phuket's iconic images and one of its revered landmarks. It sits at the top of Nakkerd Hills and is the best place on the island for 360 degree views. Or chill out and kick back on the beach, with powder soft sand between your toes and the sparkling ocean just a few feet away.
The Beach took paradisiacal Thailand and gave it an air of mystery. It combined stunning beach settings and the lovely Leonardo DiCaprio with a story that had a rather dark side. You can visit the beach from the movie but you may be slightly disappointed as visual effects were used to surround it by mountains and the beach itself was flattened by tractors for the movie. It has since been returned to its natural state and is a perfect place for some sunbathing. Most of the filming took place on beautiful Phi Phi Leh Island and Phuket with shots in Krabi and Bangkok also.
Suave, smooth and sophisticated, James Bond has had quite a few outings to Thailand, and you can too. Whilst set in Vietnam, Bangkok was used as a substitute for many of the scenes in Tomorrow Never Dies and is home to the stunning Grand Palace, a giant reclining Buddha, and peaceful Wat Arun, Temple of the Dawn which is located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. In The Man with the Golden Gun, Scaramanga lives upon an island in Phang Nga Bay which is now named James Bond Island.
And finally, John Rambo, lead character in the Rambo series played by Sylvester Stallone had some mesmerizing scenes shot in Thailand, Chiang Mai especially. Though quieter than Bangkok Chiang Mai is still home to some truly wondrous sights such as the Festival of Lights, Wat Chiang Man and Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temples. You can also visit the elephants, local hill tribes or browse through the stalls at the famous night market.
So follow in the footsteps of your idol on Thailand package holidays and really get the most from this beautiful country.
