Home Health Cross Trainer
The New Year has brought with it the desire to get myself in shape
. I have always been interested in fitness having studied it at college but unfortunately work commitments have made it more and more difficult to keep the level of fitness I once possessed. I realize now that this should not be an excuse, the only person standing in my way is me.
This has led me to purchase a Reebok i-Trainer S Elliptical Trainer. This is the latest cross trainer from the Reebok i-series range offering a 20kg flywheel inertia weight and 8 levels of manual resistance to provide a smooth and efficient workout. Whilst it is an entry level cross trainer its sleek design gives the impression that it costs much more.
An elliptical trainer or cross trainer is a stationary machine that offers a low impact form of cardiovascular exercise that simulates a combination of stair climbing, walking or running but without the excessive pressure on the joints. It can be used for rehabilitation as well as general fitness. The greatest benefit of the cross trainer is that you can control both the resistance and the speed in which you wish to workout. This makes it an excellent option for both novices right up to seasoned fitness pros.
Cross trainers work both the upper body as well as the lower body and will hit these different muscles depending on whether you go forwards or backwards:
The Hamstrings are located on the back of the legs and are involved in leg flexion movements. Using the cross trainer in reverse will place more emphasis on them.
The Quadriceps are located in the front of the thigh and are activated during leg extensions. The cross trainer involves a straightening of the leg and therefore will work these muscles.
The Gluteus Maximus otherwise known as the bum is involved in hip extensions and therefore is targeted throughout elliptical training.
The Triceps and the Chest are activated by using the levers going forward.
The Back and the Biceps are activated by using the levers going in reverse.
Due to the elliptical trainer being a form of aerobic exercise the most important muscle worked out is without a doubt the Heart.
So there we have it. I thoroughly enjoy cardiovascular exercise and in most cases I would choose to undertake it in the great outdoors. The problem with the winter (and summer!!) is that the weather or hours of daylight do not give me the opportunity to do so. This is why I feel the Reebok i-Trainer S Elliptical Trainer is the perfect solution. It wont break the bank, it will be extremely beneficial to your fitness goals and whats more, I get to watch TV while I train. Result!!
I will write a follow up article later on in the year to let you know how I progress. I am under no illusion that the training will be easy but hopefully I can persevere and get the desired results.
Happy New Year.
