Home Remedies For Scurvy
As hard as it is to believe, Home Remedies for Scurvy has reemerged as a health problem in the United States in the twenty-first century
. Beginning with scattered reports in the early 1990s, the resurgence of scurvy became a national health concern by 1999. Survey research by Arizona State University found in the late 1990s that 12 per cent of elementary school aged boys and 13 per cent of elementary school aged girls had a vitamin C intake of less than 30 milligrams a day. Among 13- to 18-year-olds, 14 per cent of boys and 20 per cent of girls had insufficient intakes of vitamin C.Children are another group at risk. In the past, if a mother couldn't breastfeed, she put her infant on raw milk. When pasteurized milk was introduced, infant scurvy increased. Heating milk to pasteurize it destroyed the natural vitamin C. These days, most kids have never tasted real fruit. They know what "artificial fruit flavors" taste like though, and are brought up on sodas instead of raw milk, and fast food instead of vegetables.
Signs of scurvy:
1 Red swollen gums, inflammation, bleeding gums
2 Loosening teeth
3 Bad breath
4 Corkscrew hairs
5 Fatigue
6 Muscle weakness
7 Joint and muscles aches and swelling
Treatment for Scurvy:
Increase in intake of fresh vegetables and fruits, especially citrus fruits are necessary to treat scurvy. Additionally, adults need to consume around 300-1,000 mg of ascorbic acid per day and 50mg/day in case of infants to effectively treat the disease.
Since the body does not produce vitamin C, it must be obtained from fruits and vegetables. Some excellent sources of vitamin C are oranges, olives, guava, green peppers, watermelon, papaya, strawberry, kiwi fruit, mango, honey, mango powder, broccoli, tomatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, and citrus juices or juices fortified with Vitamin C.Amla or the Indian gooseberry is one of the richest sources of Vitamin C, whether fresh or the dried, powdered form.Raw and cooked leafy greens (turnip, spinach), red and green peppers, fresh tomatoes, potatoes, pineapple are also rich sources of Vitamin C.and more information on http://www.himalayahomeremedies.com/homeremedies_scurvy.htm
