Home Security And Why It Is So Important

Burglaries and home brake-ins happen every 20 seconds in the USA and it is very disturbing

that the police can only solve 13% of these crimes and return only a handful of stolen items and money to their rightful owners. Having a security systems installed can give you great peace of mind and you are 50% less likely to get robbed than a person that has no form of home security. However, buying a professional surveillance and alarm system and having a company monitor them each day can be quite expensive and requires you to pay a high monthly fee. This option is probably the best form of home security, but not everyone can afford it.

If you cannot afford professional surveillance and alarm systems that does not mean that there are no more options left for you to explore. People around the globe create their own security machines or improvised do-it-yourself solutions. These devices are usually motion-activated alarms that can be placed around strategic areas in your home, as well as dummy cameras or hidden outdoor surveillance systems.

Control Your Area

Before you start investing into any form of home security you need to make sure that you control your area around the house itself. This means that there should be no large bushes near your home that would allow a burglar a place to hide. Having trees outside your windows that block your view it also a bad idea. Your yard should be held under control and no vegetation should block your view towards the street nor the other way around. You should also make sure that you always lock the doors and close the windows during the evening and when nobody is home. Windows on the ground level should use window shutters which should be pulled down so that nobody can break the windows in order to enter your home.

Place a few Dummy Cameras

Dummy cameras are security devices that do not record nor provide any function but to intimidate a would-be burglar. These devices look like the real thing and cost less than $100. You can buy several of these and place them around your yard. Have them look towards your front door, backyard, garage door and any other location you find to be a weak point. You should also print out a special sticker to place on your front gate. Have it say something such as This property is protected by XYZ Security Company.
