Home Security-home Invasion Prevention Checklist-ten Top Tips

Home invasions are rapidly becoming an epidemic

. Maybe not so surprisingly, a lot a home invasions are the direct results of drugs. As drug usage proliferates home invasions may become much more problematic.

To my humble way of thinking they are much more dangerous than a regular burglary. Burglars work by themselves and in 95% of the times choose homes that are unoccupied. They are usually unarmed unskilled and have absolutely no desire to get caught.

Home invaders on the other hand, deliberately choose homes that are occupied. Almost always work with at least one other person and are almost always armed. They get what they want by intimidation, brute force and threats of deadly violence. They are not to be taken lightly.

In all the research that I've done on burglary and home invasions I have found that 60% of all burglaries happened through unlocked doors and windows. And a surprisingly large number of home invasions happen right through the front door. Most people, especially older people like myself just reflexively open the door when somebody rings the bell or knocks on it. NOT a good idea!!

Here are some tips on security from a home invasion checklist. Start with making your home burglarproof.

1.Put out the unwelcome mat-put up warning signs of a guard dog or security system.

2.Remove potential hiding places like shrubs and trees near doors and windows.

3.Join or start a Neighborhood watch. They are FREE and they work.

4.Bolster your doors.

5.Use door and window alarms.

Once you have done those things then:

6.Use your peephole. Find out who is there before opening your door.

7.Develop an emergency plan on what to do if someone gets in.

8.Get and practice using some self defense products like stun guns and pepper sprays.

9.Don't aggravate an armed intruder.

10.Stay Calm. Don't lose your head. Use common sense.

If you use common sense and follow this checklist you will be well on your way to preventing home invasion. Trust me you don't want to be a victim of this heinous crime. Improve your home security today.

If you think crime can only happen to the other guy you are wrong. The "other guy" is thinking the same thing and to him you are that "other guy". There is a reason why they call it self defense. You have to protect yourself, your family, your home and business!!

Chances are if you are reading this that crime has touched your life in some way or you consider yourself at risk. Take the next step and do something to protect yourself! Your home security is worth far more than the cost of some home security devices.
