As the midpoint between New Haven and Hartford, Meriden is its own community, with retail and employment options close by, and also a commuter town for those working in the state's larger cities. For a reference point, Meriden became a town in the 18th century, originally part of Wallingford up to that point. In 1867, the town was incorporated as a city.

As you might have already found out, Meriden is called the "Silver City," mainly for its industrial past in the silver industry. Once the location of the International Silver Company, Meriden went through various industrial changes in the late 20th century and early 21st century. Presently, the city is going through a renaissance as a location for biotechnology companies. Protein Sciences has its headquarters in Meriden, and Research Parkway is home to several other similar companies.

Part of Meriden's renaissance involves the downtown and attracting retail. The Westfield Meriden Mall known to many as the Meriden Square Mall has been a draw for many years, and now the downtown is attracting businesses with the state-approved Enterprise Zone.

For commuters, Meriden is the location or near some of the state's major highways and routes. Interstates 91 and 691 intersect in the city, and State Route 5 passes through and joins with State Route 15 on the Berlin border. Driving is not the only option for commuting to work from Meriden, however. The city has its own CT Transit bus system and is served by an Amtrak stop and express bus to Hartford.

Aside from being an ideal location for commuters and of up-and-coming industry, Meriden has multiple recreational options. The Hunter Golf Course is considered one of the state's best golf courses, and Hubbard Park has several options for being active. The spot of the annual Daffodil Festival, Hubbard Park has paths for walking, hiking, or biking and is the location of Castle Craig Tower.
