Honda Cars - Honda Car Racing Achievements

Honda is has been leading not only on domestic front but also on tracks as well, including motor sports like, Motorcycle Race, Super Bike Race, Formula One, Formula Two, IndyCar, and various Grand Prix as well. Here are some important Honda Car racing milestones.

Formula One history is incomplete without the amazing Honda cars. The first Honda car racing team entered in the Formula One in 1964. Rubens Barrichello was the driver for this team and they were in the top ten from the first year. During the German Grand Prix, Ronnie Bucknum was the driver and they also score decent time too. In 1967 Honda team scored first win from the Belgian Grand Prix. The driver of this car was John Surtees. During the first months the team won the Mexican Grand Prix in 1967.

The Year 1968 was important in Honda racing history as well. The team won the Italian Grand Prix first and then the luck turned around. The team lost one their valuable member driver Jo Schlesser. He was killed instantly during the French Grand Prix. This was a low point in Honda history not only the team lost a valuable member, but their car business also suffered loses. The result of the decision was made to remove Honda from participating and regrouping for the year.

The Honda team also took part successfully in other racing events as well including the Formula two. Team Honda won the French Formula two for two years in row in 1965 and 1966 as well. During the 80s Honda cars participated in various Formula 2 events and performed consistently too. The Honda team produced special engine for the Brabham-Honda turbo in the IndyCar as well. During the Pocono Grand Prix, the team also produced car for the Bobby Rahall as well.

Honda was welcomed in Formula one in 1983 and they supported the Spirit team. The Honda team was supporting the Williams team who were among the top ten ranking performers in the Formula One as well during the 90s. The Honda car construction won the formula one in 1987 and 1988 as well. Similarly the wining years continue with the McLean team, that took the gold in 1988, 1989, 1990, and 1991 as well. The next win came in the Jordan Grand Prix in 1999.

The Honda team started participating in IndyCar in 1994. Their design won the six winning drivers in a row and during the 2003 Honda started participating in the IRL IndyCar event as well. Honda cars won the title in fourteen out of sixteen titles easily during that event as well. Honda has the unique record of having trouble free run in Indianapolis 500 also.

Honda Car formed their own Formula one team in 1998, but the project was stopped due to death of key member, who was working as the project's technical director. The Honda team won the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2006. In 2008 however the team Honda stopped the participation in the Formula One due to the global economic melt down. The team right were sold to the Team Ross Brawn. In 2010 Honda came back to motor sports with the official works in British Touring Car Event.
