The museum is built on the second floor of the Happy Valley Stand. Inaugurated on 18th October 1996 it displays the various ambits of horseracing and its impact in Hong Kong as well as the charitable role of the club. Its 6000 square feet of massive space overlooking the Happy Valley Racecourse and offers an extremely striking view of the arena.

There have been several missions that the museum has set out for itself. Among which is the tracing of the historical roots of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the preservation of the history of horseracing in Hong Kong. The museum has been built with four galleries. The first is called Origin of Our Horses which depicts the migratory patters of the horses journeying from Northern China to Hong Kong. The second gallery is Shaping Sha Tin showing how the Sha Tin Racecourse was built. Understanding Horses is another gallery where skeletons of Hong Kongs famous horses are on display and the final gallery is dedicated to thematic exhibitions. Theres also a souvenir shop and cinema for those interested in taking home a memento for their loved ones or entertaining themselves with a movie.
