Hot Colouring For Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are arguably one of the funnest accessories a person can buy

. Long flowing extensions made from real human hair are the ideal candidate to express a little creativity and announce how much splash you have in your personality.

The popular trend among young people (and those who are young at heart), is dying a section of the extension a vibrant colour. Strips of bold, ruby red on black hair; neon green streaks with an earthy brown or dazzling pink to frame a blonde; a rainbow of colours are available to bring hair extensions to life.

While some people may opt to tint the entire extension, streaking and chunking is a more popular style. Streaking is the same as highlights, with strips of hair painted a different colour. Chunking is much bolder. A thick section of hair, sometimes one on each side of the face, sometimes several, is boldly tinted. The results are dramatic and exciting, creating a sense of individuality and the daring vibrance of youth.

While extensions can be purchased with rainbow colouring already added, most people prefer to tint their extension themselves in order to customize the look. The process is actually quite simple, and most designer accessories stores will sell kits that cater to this trend.

Synthetic hair extensions rarely take well to tinting, so it's best to use natural hair. Spread the hair flat onto a clean piece of cardboard or paper (newsprint could leave black streaks on your extension). Mix the extension dye according to directions and simply paint it on where you wish. If your kit doesn't come with an application brush, you can use a good quality, narrow paint brush or artist brush to do the trick.

Let the tinting solution set according to directions or until you've reached the shade you like. Rinse with cool water before applying a little hair conditioner. The hair conditioner will absorb any excess tint and help rinse it away. Rinse again before allowing your extension to dry, and just like that you've got some hot colour on your hair extensions!
