Estrogen works with another homone, testosterone, and effects the hypothalamus, to control the temperature of the body. Unfortunately, when the estrogen or testosterone levels are unbalanced the hypothalamous gets the signal that you are too hot. The body starts to cool you down by getting the heart to pump faster in order to increase blood flow to the skin, so that excess heat can be let off. This means you begin to sweat a huge amount and your heart beats excessively.


So what can you do to alleviate these symptoms of hot flushes and night sweats? Well there are plenty of herbs and natural remedies that can help these problems. First of all, it can be a good idea to look at what you are eating and drinking. Something that is advisable is to stay away from beverages which contain caffein or alcohol and spicy foods a much as possible. Also an increase in vitamins might be helpful, especially vitamin E and Omega 3 fatty acids. This increase can come about by eating more nuts, olive oil, and fish. There are also several herbs that can be very helpful. The main ones are licorice root, black cohosh, red rasbery leaves, chasteberry, spearmint, motherwort, wild yams and primrose oil.


There are also a number of products that can help if all else fails. The best type of product, I found, is a cream based one containing about 500 milligrams per ounce of natural progesterone. This progesterone is often derived form soya beans and it is best to find a cream that is a natural vegetarian formula that uses no artificial or synthetically derived fragrances, parabens, or preservatives. Look also for formulas that use natural oils and an enhonced liposome delivery system to help move the progesterone through the skin.
