Houston Texans Tickets - Texans Filled With Fantasy Potential In '10
With arguably the best quarterback-receiver combination in the league
, the Houston Texans should be very difficult to stop all season long in 2010. Even if they don't challenge Indy for the division title, as some have predicted, they should still make a run at the playoffs due to their solid group of offensive talent. Here's a look at their top fantasy guys in 2010.
Andre Johnson, Wide Receiver:
After having 100 catches and 1,500 yards each of the last two seasons, AJ is the consensus number one pick at the receiving position. Even though Randy Moss could have more overall upside in a contract year, you can't go wrong with drafting Johnson early in the draft. A nightmare cover for corners, Johnson has the size, speed and hands to make a big play every single time that quarterback Matt Schaub drops back to pass. Johnson hasn't had a double-digit touchdown season yet in his career, but that could definitely change if Schaub has another healthy season.
Projection: 108 catches, 1,620 yards, 10 touchdowns.
Matt Schaub, Quarterback:
If you can't get your hands on one of the truly elite quarterbacks, don't hesitate to snag Schaub to plug in as your starter. In his first healthy season as the Texans starting quarterback, Schaub quickly became one of the best gunslingers in the league by launching 29 touchdowns against 15 interceptions, giving him a very strong QB rating of 98.6. Schaub also tossed for 4,770 yards and the Texans are sure to continue to chuck the ball downfield throughout the year, which is certainly a style of play that always sells loads of Houston Texans tickets. A lot could depend on developing a running game, but Schaub could even elevate himself into the elite level fantasy quarterbacks if he puts up similar numbers to his 2009 campaign.
Projection: 4,600 yards, 30 touchdowns, 14 interceptions.
Kevin Walter, Wide Receiver:
Walter is actually one of the more underrated receivers in the league. After putting up more than 800 yards opposite Johnson in both 2007 and 2008, Walter was injured for the first two games in 2009 and still put together a decent season of 53 catches and 611 yards. With him healthy from the get-go in 2010, Walter should be a benefactor of a Texans passing attack that is growing more confident by the season. Don't mistake Walter for a guy who is going to break out and have a 1,000-yard season, but he's a solid player who can help fill in for bye weeks and injuries.
Projection: 68 catches, 855 yards, five touchdowns.
Owen Daniels, Tight End:
When Daniels shredded his knee in the eighth game of the season in 2009, he was actually the number one fantasy tight end in the league. His 519 yards and five touchdowns in just eight games still ranked as one of the better seasons in the NFL for his position, though a lot of his 2010 outlook will depend on how well he recovers from the knee injury. The bright side for Daniels fans is that you should be able to get him at a bargain in the late rounds as others worry about his knee injury. If he's healthy, Daniels will be a big part of the Texans passing attack, as he has been in the last few years.
Projection: 74 catches, 875 yards, seven touchdowns.
Steve Slaton, Running Back:
Slaton could be one of the most overlooked backs in this year's draft. Slaton was a monster in his 2008 rookie season, putting up 1,659 combined yards and ten touchdowns. Last season, however, Slaton was devastated by injuries and eventually had to sit out for most of the second half of the year. In the 11 games he did play in while battling injury, Slaton still put up 854 total yards and was a major part of the passing attack. The Texans did draft Ben Tate at the end of the second round this year, but Slaton is much better out of the backfield and will be the number one guy if he gets his burst back. Considering how low people are on him, Slaton could be an absolute steal.
Projection: 1,300 combined yards, eight touchdowns.
