How Can You Treat Some Common Skin Infections?
There are many instances when the germs invade our immune system and we get infected
. Most of the time, we avoid taking care of ourself, till the infection becomes severe. It is better to consult the doctor, once you start feeling the problem.
There are three basic types of skin infections:
1. Bacterial - The staphylococcus family is the most notorious of all, they are of 30 types and they cause different types of skin infections. Some common bacterial infections are- gonorrhoea,meningococcal disease,erysipeloid,chancroid, symphylis,etc. Anthrax is also caused by staphylococcus infection. Other major bacterial skin infections include cellulitis and impetigo.
2. Viral There are various types of viral skin infections. - (a) Herpes simplex- Cold sores and genital herps. (b) Herpes zoster- Chicken pox or, Varicella infection usually occurs in childhood. (c) Molluscum contagiosum It affects infants and young kids. (d) Warts- It is a local skin infection, caused by HPV (e) Orf- it is contracted from sheeps and goats. There are some more type of viral infections like measels, rubella, fifth disease, hand and mouth infections,Gianotti-Crosti Syndrome, Kaposi's sarcoma, etc.
3. Fungal Dermatophyte infections includes Athelet's foot, nail infection, ringworm of the groin, and ring worm of the body and ring worm of the scalp. Yeast infections include, intertrigo, Pityriasis versicolor and Thrush.
How can you avoid the skin infection:
1. We know that most of the times the skin infection is contagious and it spreads by direct contact with the infected person. Sharing the clothes, or towel, razor, etc of a infected person can also cause skin infection.
2. Fungal infections are enhanced by the use of damp clothes, or due to moist skin. Keep yourself clean, and dry your skin before wearing the clothes. Try to wear loose fitting clothes.
3.Keep your wounds covered, so that you may not get infected.
You can use some medicated soaps or gel, which are easily available in the market. Most of them contain anti-bacterial chemicals like triclosan. But, using a product like this is not good in a long run, because the bacteria become immune to triclosan in the course of time. Then, it will be harder for you to combat with the drug-resistant bacteria.
