What Are The Signs Of A Staph Skin Infection?

A staph infection is usually treatable; especially if it is detected early and managed well using antibiotic treatments

. Recovery rates are exceptional when it is treated with the appropriate antibiotics. Staph infection is caused by the staphylococcus bacteria and causes many types of illnesses. There are over 30 species of the bacteria and each one causes a different infection.

About 30 per cent of healthy adults have the staph bacteria living in their nose or on their skin. Most of the time, it just sits there and causes no problems. When there is an injury or some sort of damage to the skin the bacteria takes the chance to enter the body and cause an infection.

Staph infections spread through the weakened skin and release harmful toxins in the body. Staph infection can also attack one particular part of the body directly. It is most harmful when staph infection reaches the blood stream. This is when it can enter the body's urinary tract or heart and be fatal.

Illnesses caused by staph infection can be minor and easily treatable with a suitable antibiotic therapy. The chances of recovery using the proper treatment are very good. Occasionally one comes in contact with a strand of staph infection that is resistant to antibiotics. These cases take a very aggressive treatment plan to defeat the growth of the bacteria and reverse its effects on the body.

As you can see, the range of diseases caused by staph infection is very wide. It ranges from mild, treatable symptoms to fatal cases. Catching staph infection early has a major part in managing and beating it.

Staph infection can be passed from one person to another through direct contact. In places where there are a lot of people sharing common items it is imperative to practice good hygiene. Hospitals are noted for having many cases of staph infection. The hospital staff will do the best they can to keep instruments and other items sterile and free from disease. It sometimes seems as though a person contracts staph infection after surgery or other medical procedures. This is because the staph bacteria enter through a wound or injury, not because the hospital used improper sterilization of its instruments.

Good hygiene does play a role in preventing staph infection. Taking a shower daily, frequently washing your hands and washing your clothes will help in the prevention of staph infections. Keeping wounds clean, dry and medicated with a topical antibiotical ointment will help as well. But any time there is a wound there is also a chance of a staph infection.
