Laptop failures can inconvenience just about anyone
, especially if you have important data stuck on your laptop's hard drive. Fortunately, you can extract the data you need from your laptop without a lot of hassle. However, you will need another computer with a hard drive that's large enough to store the data from your laptop's hard drive and a SATA to USB hard drive adapter cable. This method can become somewhat time-intensive, but the end results are well worth the time spent.
Remove the power adapter and battery from the laptop. Set the battery aside in a safe location.
Please the laptop on a flat surface bottom side down. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the screws holding the bottom cover or hard drive door on the laptop. Carefully pull the hard drive out of the laptop.
Attach the hard drive adapter cable onto the SATA connector on the end of the hard drive. Connect the other end to your computer's USB port.
Click the "Start" icon on your computer's taskbar and click on "Computer." Browse through your laptop's hard drive by double-clicking on the hard drive icon. Depending on the number of hard drives already installed on your computer, your laptop's hard drive may appear as the "E:" or "F:" drive.
Copy your information from the laptop's hard drive onto the computer's hard drive. You can also use a hard disk recovery program to create a complete clone of your hard drive, if it is not damaged.
Disconnect the laptop's hard drive from the computer and place it back inside of the laptop. Reassemble the laptop, using the Phillips screwdriver to replace the screws holding the bottom cover or hard drive door.
