How Do Ultrabooks Differ From Traditional Laptops?

The world of technology never rests. It seems that every week there are new must have devices that can help make your day smoother. Computers evolve at a furious pace, and the good news is that higher end technological devices are now being integrated in our daily lives. However, most people are still not very sure of the differences between Ultrabooks and the traditional laptops. The Ultrabook has been defined as the laptop of the future, so while technically being a computer, the features incorporated allow Ultrabooks to surpass functionality of its close cousin, the traditional laptop. In case you are not aware of the differences between the two devices then this article will highlight how they differ.

There are several significant differences between Ultrabooks and traditional laptops. Some of these can be spotted physically while others are built in and can only be noticed through their functionality. The first difference that can be easily identified by most people is increased portability. Ultrabooks are slimmer compared to the traditional laptops. They have a small and highly integrated motherboard that translates into a quicker and more powerful operating system. This contributes greatly to the slimmer design that ultrabooks are constructed with.

Ultrabooks are also different from the traditional laptops in regards to their respective storage capabilities. The new Ultrabooks are designed with a solid-state hard drive (shortened as SSD) that acts as their primary storage device. Traditional laptops on the other hand utilize a traditional hard drive (with mechanical parts) that has a slower boot time compared to the SSD. Furthermore, due to the physical nature of a mechanical drive as compares to a solid-state, mechanical drives not only take longer to boot up but will find information slower as well, translating to a slower overall performance in general. SSD are also much less susceptible to damage as there are no moving parts that can be harmed.

Ultrabooks are also much more convenient compared to the traditional laptops. This is in regards to daily functioning and daily use. For example the battery life, which now lasts longer per charge over the traditional laptops while also retaining its charging abilities longer (over time batteries cannot hold the same amount of power as they initially did). Majority of the ultrabooks have non-replaceable Lithium-Polymer batteries, which translate to less recharging; less hassles and therefore better performance. Ultrabooks also come in sophisticated sealed units. Many have one piece metal bodies or shells that are much more resilient than their plastic cousins.

Essentially Ultrabooks are the future of laptops. Long gone are the days of 10-pound devices that only stay charged for a few hours. The laptops of the future have been improved in every dimension, from internal processing to physical structure. However, the progression towards SSD is arguably the biggest change from traditional laptops, as they are more reliable, faster and tougher. Ultrabooks are geared towards those who are constantly on the move and use their computer at various locations throughout the day, such as business professionals and students. Whatever your job in life may be, having a sleeker and more efficient laptop can improve anyones day.
