The Influence On The Laptop Market Of The Release Of Ultrabooks In 2012
You may have seen on TV a huge number of adverts promoting the release of Toshibas new series of laptops called the ultrabook
. From the very second you hear the name it becomes evident that the aim for Toshiba is to create a competitor for the similarly named macbook. When laptops became books, Im not sure but it seems to be the way to go as reaction to the ultrabook bodes well for its developers.
Unfortunately for Toshiba it has recently been announced that the biggest selling laptop of the year was the Macbook Air and by some distance, however despite the high budget advertising campaign Toshiba will have to wait a little while until they can expect to be as popular as the Macbook series. The good thing is the experts are in approval and the product has the ability to excite potential buyers with some new technologies.
The first thing that everybody will notice about any of the laptops in the range is the screen. Toshiba have looked outside the box and decided to shy away from conventional screen sizes. On the Satellite U840W they have incorporated a screen which is 14.4 inches diagonally with an aspect of 21:9, this is quite a radical move from the designers but as you begin to play around with the product you quickly establish the thinking behind the decision.
Movies look unbelievable on this screen, the dimensions are just right and the vision quality truly is second to none. However, it is not until you begin to use multiple windows that you realise the full scope of the design. The user is able to watch a video while checking his email or browsing the internet without any issues or loss of visual quality.
In fact throughout the entire design of the laptop Toshiba have not shied away from change. In recent years companies have become too set in their ways, too scared to change anything in case they make a fatal error. Toshiba, however, have seen an opportunity.
The world is bored by what is on offer, we have been using it for too many years now. Thats why from the moment you pick up the ultrabook you can tell things have changed. Not least the screen, but when you start to navigate the computer it is like stepping into the future. The interactivity is fantastic and given another year Apple might have cause for concern for the future.
