c) Cleaning the tongue - this is a commonly ignored aspect regarding oral hygiene. People take great pains to clean their teeth and gums, while ignoring the tongue. Sediments will develop on the surface of the tongue. These sediments must be removed in an appropriate manner. Tongue cleaners are commonly employed in order to combat the situation. Several bacteria will thrive on the surface of the tongue. These bacteria are known to disrupt the functioning of the tongue. Many diseases in the mouth and the gums can be caused as a consequence of an unclean tongue.


When oral hygiene is brought into the context, one must consider these aspects. The type of food consumed will play a predominant role with the oral hygiene paradigm. For example, acidic foods will tarnish the teeth. Slight traces of these materials might be present in different parts of the mouth. They will combine with the bacteria (that is already in existence within the mouth) and will lead to detrimental effects.
