How Heroes Changed Everything

Believe it or not, the hit TV show from a few years back - "Heroes" - tells us quite

a bit about how comic books, over the years, have led to the creation of a completely new type of entertainment genre.

I'm talking about the superhero genre.

At the beginning of this decade, the movie industry was greeted with some of the first attempts at the superhero genre - "X-Men" and "Spider Man"- and to put it bluntly - they we're a huge hit. These two movies would lead the way for a whole slew of other superhero movies ranging from Daredevil to a revamped Batman series to even movies about some of the more artistic comic books out there such as "300", "Watchmen", and the infamous "Sin City."

The reason these movies are so important is they helped inspire one of the first superhero-based TV show, "Heroes". "Heroes" was great in that it provided an entire world of superheroes. Each of these characters has their own unique ability which adds to their character's development throughout the series.

The "Heroes" series also featured one of the best super villains of all time - Sylar. Sylar, who became a serial killer in the series, has the ability to steal the powers of any other person with ability. His method for retrieving the power is a horror in itself. He actually removes the scalp of the individual with the ability where he then gets into their brain where he finds the thing, whatever it is, that gives each one their ability. Sylar was so well like by fans he eventually became somewhat of an anti-hero for viewers. In a few of the seasons, he actually teams up with some of the good guys to fight even greater evils.

Another great feature of the show was its use of special effects. Despite the fact it is a TV show, the producers were truly able to get a top notch teach of special effect artists to come on board. From making it look like characters could fly to catch fire to shooting beams of energy out of their hands; those behind these awesome sights truly did the superhero genre justice.

One final aspect of the show "Heroes" which made it great is it touched base on the politics of times. In the show, we see how people with abilities are viewed by normal people in the country. Sometimes the people with abilities are respected, and other times they're not. Regardless, the show truly dives into the darkest reaches of one's own civility and how they would react to a world where superheroes are very much a reality.

"Heroes" truly is the first and most innovative of TV superhero shows.
