How Important Is Bathroom Lighting?

Gone are the days when our bathrooms have only one light fixture on the ceiling in the middle of the room

. With so many different lighting fixtures available, many homeowners are wondering just how important bathroom lighting is in a room where we seem to spend so much time. Believe it or not, bathroom lighting is very important for not only the light it provides but also for the mood and atmosphere it adds to the room.

Vanity Lighting

One of the most common types of bathroom lighting is vanity lighting. Vanity lighting comes in different styles, with the most common feature being that they are, obviously, above the vanity. For the best lighting, avoid putting your light fixtures directly above your mirror because it will cast a shadow on your face and making putting on makeup or other grooming difficult. For the best lighting, consider using scones or vertical lighting fixtures placed on either side of the mirror.

Shower or Toilet Lighting

Another area where many prefer bathroom lighting is near the shower or toilet area. Although this type of lighting is secondary in the bathroom, many prefer more light near the shower unless they have a glass door on their shower. The toilet area will often get more than enough light from other bathroom lighting fixtures in the room, particularly if you have a small bathroom.

Ceiling Lighting

In spite of the different types of bathroom lighting, many still prefer a ceiling light that's turned on with a wall switch. Although many come with a built-in fan, try to get one that is separate from the fan, as you won't need the fan on every time you turn on the light. With the right type of bathroom lighting, you can provide the bathroom with adequate lighting while adding a warm glow to your room.
