You dated for a long time and were completely devastated when your girlfriend said it was time to go your separate ways. You're not talking about a fast and furious fling but a relationship that lasted years. You didn't just lose your girlfriend. You lost a huge segment of your life. It feels like nothing will ever be right in your world again. Even worse, how do you get over her when she's always the first thought that comes to mind?

It HURTS to lose someone you've loved for a long time. Some would argue that this is worse than losing someone to death. At least in death you have some sort of finality or closure on the situation. With a breakup, it's just that one person decides it's over and that's that.

It's not something you can just get over and move on after. It's not even something you saw coming your way. For the most part, men that are deeply hurt by a breakup never even caught on to the warning signs that there was trouble in paradise.

But right now you want answers. You want to know WHEN this pain will end. You want to know how LONG it will take you to get over her. You want to know exactly when you're going to be able to move on with another life that doesn't include her in it.

You want to know all these things because right now you can hardly even stand to think about them. You want definite answers because right now you feel like your life is a storm of maybes and nothing is corporeal. You want to get your girlfriend back. You don't want to keep going in limbo day after day wondering where she is, how she's doing, or who she's with.

You want your life, the life you built together, back. Then maybe it's time to stop asking how long it's going to take to get over her and start asking questions about how long it's going to take to get her back.
