How Long Will It Take To Get A Work Permit?

The Home Office Border and Immigration Agency deal with work permit applications

. UK work permits can be dealt with in as little as 1 or 2 weeks. However, it may take longer to get a work permit if you have to advertise a vacancy.

If you have a company that is not established yet in the UK, then it is likely that you will be unable to apply for a work permit for one of your employees. If this happens then you could consider the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP).

Once the application has been completed for a work permit, it usually takes approximately 3 to 4 weeks for the application to be approved. It is also required that a spouse and any dependants of the person applying for a work permit apply for what is known as entry clearance.

If you are a Russian national applying for a work permit, then your application may take longer due to procedures in security clearances. It will also take longer for nationals of North Korea, Iraq, China and Libya.

While the application for obtaining a UK work permit is being processed the person applying is allowed to visit the UK, but they must not begin any employment or undertake any work until the permit has been approved.
