How Many Ways Are There To Stop Smoking

Quitting smoking isn't as easy as many non-smokers try to make it out to be and if

you're a smoker who has tried, then you already know this to be a proven fact. There are many ways to attempt to quit smoking, it's just a matter of finding the one that's right for you.

Cold turkey isn't popular only after Thanksgiving; it's a method that many people have used to quit smoking over the years with mixed results. Some people swear by it and others say that it just doesn't work. Whether you believe it works or not, odds are good that if you have tried to quit smoking, you have tried quitting with the cold turkey method. If you're reading this article, then it can be assumed that you failed using that method, because that's typically the first method smokers attempt to use, often because it is the cheapest one.

The next method involves slowly weaning yourself off of cigarettes gradually. Some people use this method and draw out the amount of time they want to quit in over a few weeks, but others attempt to do this in less than a week by smoking fewer cigarettes every day. While weaning yourself off of cigarettes over a period of time can work, it can be difficult to cope with stressful situations without cigarettes while you are attempting to quit.

Smoking the same amount of cigarettes a day, but only smoking half of one and throwing it away could help, as well. You do not take in as much nicotine this way and this method will help build your confidence if you have the will to go through with it.

There are nicotine therapies that might help with your smoking cessation attempts, but most of these products are expensive and simply do not work for 95% of the population. Nicotine replacement therapies like patches, gums, and lozenges work for between 2% and 5% of the population and the question of whether they are worth the money is just that... a question.

There are many other ways to quit smoking and which one you decide to use will involve weighing the pros and cons of each of them to make sure that the method is right for you. Quitting smoking is an individual process, which means that what works for your neighbor may not work for you. Cold turkey, weaning off gradually, or using nicotine therapies may work for you or you may have to find your own method of cessation.
